Now, let's see what Eric Johnson, Mike Landau and Robben Ford think.
careful!
The 3 guys you just mentioned in the perspective of "toan" all 3 use setups that defy all the claims that come with the VR with regard to preservation of that "toan". If taking the improvements in signal path (and lack of signal loss) of the VR in consideration these 3 guys should have an incredible loss. They don't. They are considered to have excellent setups and an excellent sound.

In a similar sense I saw the VR add in the latest edition of "gitarist" magazine last saturday. Wrong. When picturing a loaded pedalboard and the VR as the alternative you're targetting at the wrong audience.

First of all the pedalboard, and what's on it, is not to be compared with the VR since it was decided not to do any digital stuff in the VR. Then don't picture a pedalboard containing digital stuff (and, especially considering the delays) options the VR cannot meet.
Second is the odd assumption that someone carrying around a big pedalboard does that without a reason. Many players actually like having their effects at their feet in that manner, being independent of pre-programmed options, and being able to step that extra box when the situation requires something else.

we're not all jazz players ;0
