Het schijnt dat de JMP 2204's uit 1976 en begin 1977 'non-cascading gainstages' hebben (als het ware een 1987 model met een master volume), en een stuk minder klinken. The main difference in sound between the cascaded ["1987M"] and non-cascaded 2204's is a fair bit more gain, less noise overall, and more harmonic content overall. The 1987M version of the 2204 circuit just sounds flat and lifeless to my ears. It can be improved a LOT by lowering the 330K resistor on the V2 socket to 100K, but then you need to alter the plate resistors (and possible cathode resistors) on V1 to get that level of gain back. Better to convert to the cascaded version IMO.
The early non-cascaded 2204 is sort of middle ground between the 1987 and the cascaded 2204, but doesn't have the redeeming features of EITHER of those circuits in my opinion.
