G&L Guitars has closed down.
The Orange County Register noted on October 31 that Leo Fender’s “last Orange County guitar company” has closed.
Founded by Leo Fender with George Fullerton and sales ace Dale Hyatt in the late 1970s, G&L built instruments in Fullerton, California—famously at 2548 Fender Avenue. The brand’s mission was to carry Leo’s ideas forward after his groundbreaking work with Fender and Music Man.
Leo himself once called G&L Guitars “the best instruments I have ever made.” Models like the ASAT, Legacy, Comanche, and L-2000 became cult staples for players chasing Leo’s last word on his classic formulas.
Local coverage and dealer reports point to operations ceasing in mid-September 2025, with all employees laid off and tools, machines, and inventory being sold to a new owner—however, there has been no formal company press release to date.
Another great guitar brand is gone.
