google is your friend:

Title What are the differences between the versions of Cubase?
Abstract Should I be using SX, SL, or VST/32?
The newest version of Cubase comes in two flavors; Cubase SX and Cubase SL. Both are very powerful, but the SX version has more features and functionality including more simultaneous VST instruments and effects, increased score options, expanded automatic options, spectral analysis and audio statistics functions, True Tape and a more flexible mixer. . Also available is Cubase VST, which has largely been replaced by the newer SX. SX is not a new version of VST as it has a completely new code base and way of handling audio. At this time, Steinberg is still supporting the older Cubase VST and many users are faithful to this version. SX includes a technology called System Link that allows you to use more that one computer at a time to work with Cubase. Although not available in VST now, System Link is expected to be included in the newest free update
