We try to infuse these and the dozens more articles we publish each month with a sense of sharing and perspective more than ego and strutting, because as bass players ourselves, we know that’s what bassists are all about. And to paraphrase the airlines, we’re aware there are other carriers that could help you reach your destination, so we appreciate that you’ve chosen to fly BP. We think it’s great that there are a handful of other places to get bass info and feel a sense of fellowship, from internet sites and forums—like musicplayer.com’s Low Down Lowdown, talkbass.com, and Steve “Dude” Barr’s Dudepit (vintagebass.com)—to other magazines who’ve tried to follow our path. By no means, though, does that absolve us from our responsibility to help define, unite, and build our bass brothersisterhood, while humbly striving to be a helpful, thoughtful authority on all things bass. That’s what you’ve come to expect from us, and it’s a task we take seriously.
