So I build every now and then with Mattia V up in Amsterdam. Progress is slow, but it is still progress none-the-less.
They're sort of like twins. They are both mad-rose back/sides with bearclaw European spruce tops, matching mad-rose and double abalone purfling rosettes, sapele necks, macassar ebony fretboards, and bindings, etc.
Only differences come in that his is going to be a standard guitar, and mine will be a multi-scale baritone. How about some pics?

Mine is the lighter colored rosewood. Also, this is a custom shape of Mattia's. It reminds me a lot of Jeffrey Jong's JJ shape which is another very cool "round bottom girl" type shaped acoustic guitar.

hi chris, that looks really nice!!
what do you mean with 'multiscale baritone'? will it have fanned frets or something? I'm specifically interested since I just started the build of an acoustic baritone.

cheers

Yes, fanned frets. I prefer to say multi-scale simply because there was (I believe it's run out) patent on "fanned frets." Lol

Welcome!
That looks great. Nice woods.

This will be an interesting threat. Will Matia post his build in this threat?
I'd like to see more of his building. He doesn't post much lately.

I can ask him. I know he's out of the country right now though. Also, since we only see each other every couple of weeks, these builds move VERY slowly hahaha. You may all get bored WAY before we finish! hahah

I'm confused why on the main page it says that this thread was moved? This is a thread about building a guitar... and from what I understand this is the "self-built guitars" section?
Also, I can't seem to find where it was moved TO...

it was moved to a seperate section called "volg het bouwproces" (see top of page) meant for topics on building a complete guitar

Ah. That makes sense. Hopefully this forum will help me learn a bit of Dutch finally! And hopefully you guys will put up with some of this sorta stuff while I try to learn. :dontgeti:

It's called 'I was doing evening and night shifts for a month and then went to South Africa for a month'. Doesn't combine well with building guitars ;)

Ok, so we're back to building a little bit this weekend. I was up in his area for Queen's Day anyways, so between rain showers this weekend we've been getting a LITTLE work done.
The rosettes are DONE:

Other than that we've just been up to some thickness sanding, design ideas, and cutting bracing stock. Nothing exciting enough to show pics of.

VERY nice rosettes, well done!

I like it that the grain of those rosewood rings is not parallel with the spruce top. And that abalone is just delicious! :mmmm:
